Mens Salwar
Men in Asia have been generally bashful when it comes to ethnic fashions. No one wants to be the ‘odd man out’ in any function. But when many men gather at traditional functions or family events, they invariably tend to prefer outfits that will suit the event. Moreover they also wish to feel comfortable. That’s why it is not unusual to see mens salwar on a come back trail for the last few years. What’s more, secretly even they are fed up of wearing western outfits day in and day out. A little variety in their power dressing is required. What better way to make a style statement than wearing a lovely and comfortable baggy salwar kameez with open faced sandals. The idea has caught on with Asian urban men in India and Pakistan.
In north Indian villages and entire Pakistan and Afghanistan men wear earthy colored salwars and kameez. It is an every day garment for them. In the urban environs men rarely wear them to work.
Since the mens salwars are used for traditional occasions, they are made from very good materials like pure cotton or silk. The other materials like crepe, chiffon or satin do not suit the masculine body therefore they are rarely used. The salwars are loose and baggy. They come with drawstrings at the waist. The ‘pooncha’ is very broad and has no frills either. It may even reach beyond the ankle length. With kurtas below the knees, the mens salwar completes the garment.
